Medals for South Tyrol's curling shooters at the home World Championships

Qualification in the distance competition took place from the early afternoon. Every athlete not only fought for a place in the individual final of the top six, which will take place on Friday. The results of the best three athletes from each team of four were also included in the team ranking. In the juniors (U23) category, Germany was crowned the new world champion. With 342,04 meters, Michael Späth, Alex Späth, Lukas Michl and Bastian Simon confidently prevailed against the second-placed Austrians, who reached 301,71 meters. The podium was completed by the curlers from the Italian selection, which consisted of Damian Denicolò, Hannes Unterberger, Simon Kammerlander and Martin Grunser and had 282,51 meters. Michael Späth showed the best individual performance with 127,15 meters. The best of the Italian team was Damian Denicolò with 101,96 meters. In seventh place, he narrowly missed qualifying for the individual final. Austria is the new European champion in the U19 age group. Sebastian Sommerer, Andreas Knaus, Marcel Progsch and Andrè Hofmacher reached an incredible 404,61 meters in the Ritten Arena. Germany came in second with 350,95 meters, while the Italian national curling team consisting of Martin Grunser, Gabriel Kofler, Sophia Albenberger and Jacopo Cassibba were able to celebrate the bronze medal with 294,36 meters. The best individual performance was achieved by Sebastian Sommerer, who shot the curling 141,58 meters in his fourth attempt. Martin Grunser's curling stick, however, stopped after 107,67 meters, which was the best distance of the Italian team. Centimeter decision in the U16 age group In the U16 age group, the fight for the gold medal became a matter of centimeters. In the end, Germany, consisting of Luca Rehrl, Korbinian Grill, Sabrina Engelbrecht and Lukas Mayer, was 340,70 centimeters ahead of Lithuania with 43 meters. Austria won the bronze medal with 336,24 meters. The Italian U18 team with Judith Ganterer, Lukas Paller, Paula Gebhard and Jacopo Cassibba took fifth place. Luca Rehrl (Germany) achieved the best distance with 119,15 meters. Judith Ganterer, on the other hand, was the “Azzurri’s” most successful distance athlete. With 96,04 meters she missed the individual final, for which a distance of 112,02 meters was necessary. The preliminary rounds of team play took place in the morning. Here Austria (U23) and Germany (U19 and U16) won all matches. Italy is now in third place among the juniors. The “Azzzurri” also take third place in the U3 category, while they are in fourth place in the U19 age group. The title fights in the Ritten Arena will continue on Thursday with the qualification of the target competitions in all age groups.
