There still seem to be unanswered questions at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) about the financing of Stockholm's bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics. In a letter dated June 14 to the Stockholm bid committee, the IOC requested “clarifications” on the government guarantees that a host country must provide. Stockholm's bid, with the other host cities Are, Falun and Sigulda in Latvia, is entering the race with a budget of around 1,24 billion euros, which is largely supported by the IOC and the economy. However, the state is supposed to provide guarantees for a multi-million dollar program for security measures and entry visas. This is negative for Stockholm.

In a Swedish radio survey published almost a week ago, 47 percent were in favor and 41 percent against hosting the Winter Games. Italy has hosted the Winter Olympics twice - in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956 and in Turin in 2006. Sweden has only hosted the country once - in 1912 for the Summer Olympics. This is positive for Stockholm.
