Plenty of precious metal for South Tyrol's young curling talent

The home quartet scored 275 points on Saturday morning, leaving the third-placed Austrians behind by four lengths. Gold went to Germany, who scored 331 points. Andreas Stelzig, Stefan Gießer, Daniel Hornberger and Florian Marchl were able to celebrate the European Championship title in the team target competition. In the U23 age group, Germany was also crowned the new world champion for women with 315 points. Selina Steber, Katharina Riepl, Anna Hinteraicher and Alina Mayer were used here. Silver went to Austria (267), bronze with 202 points to Italy with the South Tyroleans Johanna Kamelger, Nadya Dezini, Natalie Schwarz and Nicole Kühbacher.

The “Azzurri” also ended up in third place with 276 points and thus won World Cup bronze in the U23 men’s age group. Noah Egger, Daniel Stuppner, Fabian Eder and Patrick Rottensteiner were used here. Austria won the World Cup crown with Markus Rothberger, Christoph Maierhofer, Philipp Kolb and Jakob Solböck. The successful quartet had 347 points. Germany completed the podium (315). Austria also celebrated European Championship gold among the youngest players (U16). Thomas Friess, Moritz Schiefer, Anja Mandi and Melanie Leitner collected 274 points and relegated Germany (253) and Italy (246) to places. Nadin Karnutsch, Jonathan Mair at Tinkhof, Lukas Abfalterer and Damian Zanotto started a furious comeback in the second round (142), but were unable to move up to second place. Exciting duels in team games In the afternoon the team game in the Ritten Arena was about the title. Austria won the high-class final against Austria 23:14 in the U10 with Jakob Solböck, Christoph Maierhofer, Rene Peinhaupt, Markus Karl and Markus Rothberger. Bronze went to South Tyrol's Fabian Eder, Daniel Stuppner, Noah Egger, Patrick Rottensteiner and Natalie Schwarz, who beat Lithuania 16-3 in the elimination round but lost out to Austria in qualification 2.

In the U19 age group, Austria with Michael Regenfelder, Andreas Scharrer, Florian Penz, Philipp Traunwieser and Florian Schiefer initially lost in Qualification 1 against Germany (12:8), then relegated Italy 25:5 in the fight for the second final ticket the barriers and finally took revenge against Germany in the final with an 11:9. The decisive factor was the last throw, because until then the red-white-red ice shooters were behind 8:9. The South Tyrolean stick athletes (Georg Mumelter, Nicole Kühbacher, Lena Oberleiter, Jan Reiterer and Johanna Kamelger) remained bronze. Gold in the U16, however, went to Germany, which defeated Austria 1:21 in qualification 3 and again had the upper hand in the final with 19:7. The European champion team consisted of Lukas Vorderwestner, Hansi Obermayer, Marco Straubinger, Florian Kreuzeder and Paul Lämmlein. The South Tyrolean team, which took third place after an 18:12 in the elimination against Slovenia and a 0:26 in the qualification 2 against Austria, included Jonathan Mair at Tinkhof, Nadin Karnutsch, Lukas Abfalterer, Damian Zanotto and Lea Wenter in action.

Next week the new world champions in the general age group will be determined in the Ritten Arena. The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday, February 22nd. The major sporting event begins on Wednesday with the first competitions involving 250 athletes from 22 different nations.
