Salt Lake City possible Olympic candidate for 2030

The USOC announced this on Friday (local time) after a meeting in San Francisco. It is still unclear when the official candidacy will take place.

Salt Lake City, capital of the US state of Utah, had already hosted the 2002 Olympic Games and now beat rivals Denver/Colorado. “This decision allows the USOC and Salt Lake City to advance dialogue with the International Olympic Committee,” a USOC statement said.

Because the 2002 venues are still usable, the games in Salt Lake City could be less expensive than those of previous years. This was one of the advantages over Denver.

Calgary's withdrawal for 2026 Most recently, the Canadian city of Calgary withdrew its application for the 2026 Winter Games because of the expected high financial burden on its citizens.

Only Milan/Cortina d'Ampezzo and Stockholm are still in the running. If Italy and Milan and Cortina actually win the 2019 Winter Games in June 2026, it is likely that the biathlon competitions will be held in Antholz. Toblach with the Nordic Arena has also already expressed interest in the cross-country ski races. The major event will take place in Beijing in 2022.
