Sigi's tips: A toboggan ride in the smell of exhaust fumes

Somewhere in Austria, Germany or even Switzerland. Or somewhere else. Hurray, winter is here. Nothing like getting out into the fresh air. It's beautiful. For two hours now, the exhaust of the car behind which I'm trying to reach my snow dream at walking pace has been blowing its exhaust gases onto the windshield. CO2, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, soot particles and a little sulfur dioxide. That feels so good. The lungs are happy and so are the bronchi. Finally outside. Lockdown? This does not apply to leisure time, because the rulers and governments of some countries want us, who have to limit our lives as a whole, to stay healthy, which is why sport is allowed. Individual sport, of course.

The toboggan is in the trunk. The children, of course, start to whine. I lured them with the prospect of a snowball fight because basically they wanted to continue living their lives as before. On the games console and on the computer. And now they've been sitting in the car for two hours. Luckily they were given a cell phone at birth and are able to keep themselves somewhat occupied in the back seat. The Navy isn't making any giant leaps either. Still traffic jams and closed parking lots everywhere. Exactly where I want to go, where there is a slope so that I can whiz into the valley with the sleigh and whoop. Memories of childhood briefly cloud the senses. Or is it the exhaust gases? No one can comply with the Corona rules here Then finally the goal is reached. Exhausted, the offspring and also the best wife of all, and even her, ask where the nearest toilet is. Because before the fun starts, everyone has to get rid of something. Sure somehow after almost three hours in a comfortable car. And who, if not me, the driver, breadwinner and soon-to-be sleigh driver, should know that? I don't have a good car location. More like in a forbidden zone. But I'm not the only one, and that makes me feel like I'm not parking completely wrong. This is, I know, a kind of group dynamic process. It's not right but the others go along with it. So I'm a bit of a lateral thinker right now.

My rascals have run into the bushes. Restaurants and such are closed. Lockdown. Or something like that. I hold back as a gentleman and role model. In every relationship. And then we set off. Towards the mountainside. The goal cannot be missed. Hundreds of like-minded and similarly troubled people flock to where the winter fun is finally supposed to take place. Unmasked. After all, we are out in the fresh air and keeping enough distance. At least that's what I tell myself, although I honestly have to admit that I'm lying to myself. No one can follow the Corona rules here. Lockdown? Very far away for the moment My followers are quiet for now. Or is she shocked. We had imagined it a little differently. Somehow more romantic. But once we're in the crowd, none of that matters anymore. We enjoy the winter day as much as we can. Lockdown? It's as far away as the South Seas. And I don't really understand him anyway. On our way from the car to the slope I saw that sporting goods stores were closed. The ski rental company was of course allowed to offer its service. Do I have to understand that? I ponder for a moment before a snowball hits me. This is not the time to think about everything. About the virus, the restrictions or the lack of vaccination doses everywhere. Now life takes priority and we don't do anything forbidden. We only use the freedom that some regulation allows us.

After a few hours, it's getting dark, we look for our car and I admit that I'm honestly relieved that it hasn't been moved. From a towing service or something. But he wouldn't have kept up with the work anyway. Into the bushes again and then home. Another three hours of driving together are tempting. The first of these is again at walking pace, which makes snacking easier. Of course, we had the foresight to take a thermos of tea with us and pack a few sandwiches (sandwiches). I accept the crumbs in the car in these difficult times. At home we're settling into our lockdown again, which isn't so bad after all. Or? Just before falling asleep - I'm really tired - I watch the late-night news for a moment. The spokesman reports new record numbers of infected people and deaths from or with the corona virus. Somewhere in Austria, Germany or Switzerland. And not just there. Everywhere.
