South Tyrol's stock athletes win the World Cup crown

Sophia Enderle (SV Lana), Marion Huber (AEV Stegen), Franziska Knoll (SV Lana), Sonja Mulser (EV Moritzing) and substitute Karin Rainer (EV Moritzing/Ritten Sport) crowned themselves world champions in a confident manner. First of all, the “Azzurre” showed a concentrated and almost error-free performance in Qualification 1 against Germany. With 3:1 game points and 35:19 stock points, they moved straight into the final, where they met Austria. The Austrians defeated Slovenia 4:0/39:17 in the elimination round and had the upper hand against Germany in qualification 2 with 2:2/27:17. In the final, Italy took a 5-0 lead and were 13-9 ahead at halftime. Due to a few mistakes, Austria turned the tide, took the lead for the first time after the seventh turn (14:13) and extended it to 19:13 in the following round. It was the wake-up call for the South Tyroleans, who then turned things around again with a maximum of nine points and pulled away with seven more points in the tenth turn to make it 29:19. In the end, the hosts cleverly defended their lead and won 29:22 (4:0). "I am at a loss for words. We fought until the end and showed great team spirit. We're really glad we brought it home. After we fell behind, we collected ourselves again and played according to the motto “all or nothing”. It dawned on us and we are overjoyed to have won in front of this backdrop,” said Marion Huber, who was part of the successful team in 2016. For Sonja Mulser it was even the third title. Bronze for Karl Abfalterer & Co. The men's team, consisting of Karl Abfalterer (ESC Luttach), René Aichner (ASV Teis), Matthias Morandell (SV Kaltern), Stefan Roalter (EV Eppan) and substitute Martin Kerschbaumer (ASC Seiser Alpe), won the elimination 4-0 /29:11 against Switzerland. However, the “Azzurri” were unable to carry the momentum into qualifying 2 against Austria. In this game they lost with 0:4/13:35. Nevertheless, the Italian men's selection was able to celebrate the bronze medal. In the final, the German stock athletes had the upper hand against defending champions Austria. They won 4:0/31:21. The World Championship premiere in the mixed team classification, which took place on Sunday morning, turned into a real thriller. In the end, Austria prevailed against Germany with 320:319 points. The Italian quartet, which consisted of Sophia Enderle, Marion Huber, Josef Aichner and Matthias Morandell, took third place with 299 points and thus won the bronze medal. No individual medal for South Tyrol's stock athletes The new individual world champions in the distance competition were crowned on Saturday evening. There was a German triple success among the men. Gold was won by Markus Schätzl, whose stick glided 140,28 meters over the perfectly prepared ice of the Ritten Arena. This meant Schätzl was able to successfully defend the world championship title he won in 2020. Michael Späth took silver with 139,22 meters. Peter Rottmoser was able to celebrate bronze – as he did at the last World Championships in Ritten in 2016. His best distance was 136,44 meters. Two years ago Rottmoser won silver at the World Championships. Damian Denicolò (ASV St. Lorenzen/108,36) and Thomas Pichler (ASC Schenna/101,37) landed in tenth and eleventh place. Lisa-Marie Stampfl from Austria, however, was crowned world champion in the distance competition, beating German youth player Sabrina Englbrecht with 141,32:140,15 meters. Evelyn Perhab (139,20), another distance athlete from Austria, completed the podium. As the best “Azzurra”, Sonja Mulser (EV Moritzing) landed in seventh position with 131,45 meters.
