Werner Bozner and Sonja Mulser retain the upper hand

Ten men, three women, nine young people, five in the U19 and four in the U16, competed in long-distance shooting under floodlights and in the cold.

The women's title was hotly contested. The defending champion Sophia Albenberger from ESV Terlan, a U16 athlete, took the lead in the first round with the day's highest distance of 1 m with an ideal line in the second attempt. Sonja Mulser, who was back in the distance competition after a break of 96,23 years, had the better end for herself. The woman from Eppan was able to prevail after two rounds with 2 m ahead of Albenberger (1,5). Bronze went to Simone Zelger (2) from SV Teis.

It was Sonja Mulser's second title win. “I’m happy about winning the title. The title was hotly contested. The conditions got worse with each attempt. That’s why there were only three attempts in the final,” said Sonja Mulser.

This time, South Tyrol's two best long-distance shooters, defending champion Damian Denicolò from St. Lorenzen and Thomas Pichler from Schenna, were missing from the men's competition. This gave free rein to the third best long-distance shooter in South Tyrol, Werner Bozner. With a total distance of 240,54 m, the man from Girlan secured the Italian men's championship title for the third time after 3 and 2006, ahead of the U2009 long-distance shooter Hannes Unterberger (19) from SV Stegen and the distance specialist Norbert Lang (233,60). from SV Teis. The youth title winners were Hannes Unterberger in the U231,49 and Sophia Albenberger.

The next curling competitions are the district championships in the East, Central and West target competition on January 2nd in Bruneck, Brixen and Eppan.

South Tyrol's curling athletes started the new season on Friday evening after a two-month delay. The first competition was the Italian championship in the distance competition, which took place at the Rittner Eisring in Kobenstein.
