Winter sports ticker | Klinec wins first women's ski flying

ALPINE SKIING: Florian Schieder has secured a permanent place in the Super-G for the coming World Cup season. A 9th place finish was enough for the Castelrotto native on Sunday at the end of the European Cup season. In Narvik (Norway) Gilles Roulin celebrated his 11th European Cup victory. Arnaud Boisset (Switzerland) and Leo Ducros (France) lined up behind them. Mattia Cason from Laion missed the points. SKI FLYING: The Slovenian Ema Klinec has won the historic first ski flying event for women. With flights at 226 and 223,5 meters, the 24-year-old not only secured the important day's victory on Sunday in Vikersund, but also the overall victory on the ten-day raw air tour in Norway. In addition to her, Silje Opseth from Norway and the Japanese Yuki Ito made it onto the podium. Almost every one of the 15 registered ski jumpers seemed relieved when the first jump was completed. CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: The Swedish cross-country skiing relay team won a mixed competition over 4 x 5 km in Falun on Sunday, 4,6 seconds ahead of the favored Norway and 6,4 seconds ahead of Germany. The quartet that won in front of their home crowd consisted of Calle Halfvarsson, Moa Ilar, Edvin Anger and Jonna Sundling. Italy around Federico Pelligrino, Francesco De Fabiani, Caterina Ganz and Francesca Franchi landed in 5th place (+15,7 seconds). The World Cup now goes to Tallinn and finally to Lahti. FREERIDE: This weekend the “Pitztal Wild Race” also took place on the Pitztal Glacier, a qualifying competition for the Freeride World Tour. In the Ski Woman category, South Tyrolean Hannah Gruber won with a time of 8 minutes and 20 seconds, 1 minute and 36 seconds ahead of the Austrians Vicky Candlin and Valeria Sterzinger. In the men's race, the German Leon Flamm (06.09 minutes) won by just under three seconds ahead of Frederik Eiter from Austria. The German Quirin Fersch finished two seconds behind in third place.
