Winter sports ticker | Tobogganers scrape past the pole

ARTISTIC TRACK TOBOGGANING: The toboggan weekend in Oberhof was rounded off with the team relay. The South Tyrolean quartet narrowly missed the podium.

Andrea Vötter, Dominik Fischnelller and the doubles Emanuel Rieder and Simon Kainzwaldner ended up in 4th place, just 0,269 seconds behind Austria (Madeleine Egle, Nico Gleirscher, Thomas Steu/Lorenz Koller), which took 3rd place. Victory went to the Germans Julia Taubitz, Johannes Ludwig and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken, followed in second place by Latvia with Elina Vitola, Kristers Aparjods and Andris Sics/Juris Sics.

FREESTYLE: The Swiss Andri Ragettli and Tess Ledeux from France won the Slopestyle World Cup in Front Romeu (FRA). As the best Italian, Leonardo Donaggio took ninth place in the French Alps; there were no South Tyroleans at the start.

The American Cody Laplante caused a moment of shock in the men's competition. He lost both skis in the air during the jump, but apparently had no serious injuries when he landed. However, Laplante did not take part in the second round.

FOUR-MAN BOB: Patrick Baumgartner and Alex Verginer, together with their partners Lorenzo Bilotti and Costantino Ughi, finished in 18th place at the World Cup in St. Moritz. The Latvian quartet Oskars Kibermanis / Matiss Miknis / Edgars Nemme / Davis Springis took victory ahead of the four-man bobsleigh run by the exceptional German talent Francesco Friedrich with his team Alexander Schüller/Martin Grothkopp/Alexander Rödiger. The podium was completed by the Russians Rotislav Gaitiukevich / Mikhail Mordasov / Pavel Travkin / Aleksei Laptev.

NORDIC COMBINATION: The North Tyrolean Johannes Lamparter took the lead in the overall World Cup for the first time in his career on Sunday. The 20-year-old doubled at the Klingenthal stop after his previous day's victory after and ahead of Estonian Kristjan Ilves, who also came second the day before, and his Austrian compatriot Franz-Josef Rehrl. Italy's selection was not represented in Klingenthal.

SKI JUMPING: Thanks to a 139,5 m flight, Marius Lindvik won the World Cup ski jumping in Zakopane on Sunday. The Norwegian, who celebrated his fifth World Cup victory overall, won with 294,6 points, ten points ahead of the German Karl Geiger and 10,9 ahead of the Slovenian Anze Lanisek. There were no Italians at the start in Poland.
