SNOWBOARD CROSS There was little to gain for Algund snowboard crosser Omar Visintin at the Austrian Reiteralm. South Tyrol's Olympic hero (he won individual bronze and silver in the team competition) was eliminated in the round of 3 in third place in his heat and ultimately had to settle for 30th place. In the men's race, Azzurro Lorenzo Sommariva prevailed ahead of the Austrian Jakob Dusek and the Swiss Kalle Koblet. An Azzurra also made it onto the podium in the women's category: Michela Moioli took second place behind the British Charlotte Bankes. Third place went to the Canadian Audrey McManiman. FREESTYLE The exceptional Norwegian athlete Birk Ruud won the Slopestyle World Cup in Tignes (France) ahead of Max Moffat from Canada and the Swede Jesper Tjader. The Swiss Andri Ragettli took 4th place. The best Italian was Leonardo Donaggio in 26th place. CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING On the penultimate World Cup weekend of the cross-country skiing season in Falun, the Norwegian Didrik Toenseth won the 15-kilometer freestyle competition. He prevailed with a lead of 9 seconds over the Swede Calle Halfvarsson and 20 seconds ahead of his compatriot Harald Oestberg Amundsen. Since all the crystal balls have already been awarded, this event no longer had any significance for the overall ranking. The best Italian on Saturday was Giandomenico Salvadori in 21st place. In the women's category, the Norwegian Therese Johaug won confidently, 36 seconds ahead of the Swede Jonna Sundling. Third place went to Jessie Diggins from the USA, who kept the fight for the overall ranking alive against Russian Natalia Nepryaeva, who did not take part in the race. The American is now 180 points behind the Russian. The best Italian was Caterina Ganz in 39th place. SKI JUMPING After the Austrian Marita Kramer had to accept the disappointment of missing out on taking part in the Olympics, she crowned her career on Saturday with her greatest success to date. The 6th place was enough for Nika Kriznar from Slovenia to no longer catch up with her. Ursa Bogotaj from Slovenia (266,8 points) secured victory in the jumping in Oberhof ahead of Kriznar (261,1 points) and the German Katharina Althaus (254,8 points). Jessica Malsiner from Wolkenstein came 26th, her sister Lara came 34th. Nordic combined At the penultimate Nordic Combined competition, Jarl Magnus Riiber managed a counterattack against his competitor Johannes Lamparter. The Norwegian won in Schonach in Germany by 38 seconds over Lamparter. Riiber goes into the final competition on Sunday with a one point lead over the Austrian. Jörgen Graabak from Norway came third, 44 seconds behind. The South Tyrolean Samuel Costa ended up in 35th place, 4,04.30 minutes behind. In the women's category, Azzurra Annika Sieff celebrated a podium finish. She finished third, 39,2 seconds behind winner Anju Nakamura of Japan. Haruka Kasai, also from Japan, secured second place, 11,1 seconds behind. Although she was unable to finish the race, Norwegian Gyda Westvold Hansen had already won the overall World Cup.
