Winter sports ticker | Pellegrino sprints onto the podium

SKI JUMPING: The Norwegian overall World Cup leader Halvor Egner Granerud showed his claws in the first Vikersund fly and took victory. The two Austrians Stefan Kraft (6,1 points less) and Daniel Tschofenig (34,8 points less) follow on the other podium places. ALPINE SKI: Teresa Runggaldier achieved a respectable result on Saturday at the end of the European Cup season: The 23-year-old from Wolkenstein came 8th in the Super-G in Narvik (Norway). Vicky Bernardi also collected points in 28th place. The Austrian Michaela Heider took the victory, putting her compatriot Michelle Niederwieser in her place. Karen Smadja Clement (France) came third. SNOWBOARD: Austria's snowboard men celebrate a double victory: Fabian Obmann and Arvid Auner won on Saturday in Berchtesgaden (Germany). The Slovenian veteran Rok Marguc came third. Edwin Coratti took 5th place as the best South Tyrolean. Marc Hofer (12th), Daniele Bagozza (15th) and Aaron March (16th) also passed the qualifying hurdle. In the women's race, Ester Ledecka (Czech Republic) celebrated her first victory since her comeback last weekend in Rogla. The Germans Ramona-Theresia Hofmeister and Cheyenne Loch completed the podium. Nadya Ochner narrowly missed qualifying in 17th place. CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: Federico Pellegrino made it to the podium in the freestyle sprint in Falun (Sweden) on Saturday: The Italian veteran was only beaten by Norwegian superstar Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and his compatriot Erik Valnes. Michael Hellweger survived the qualification and took 23rd place. In the women's race, a Norwegian also shone at the end: Kristine Stavås Skistad brought local hero Jonna Sundling to her knees on the final straight. Maja Dahlqvist, another Swede, came third. Like Hellweger, Federica Sanfilippo was 23rd. FREESTYLE: Birk Ruud remains untouchable. The Norwegian superstar won his fifth World Cup race of the current season, the third in slopestyle, on Saturday in Tignes (France). Ruud also won gold in this discipline at the World Championships in Bakuriani. With 96 points, he relegated Jasper Tjader (94,00) and Andri Ragettli (92,50) to second and third place in Tignes. In the women's category, world champion Mathilde Gremaud from Switzerland (96,25) narrowly won ahead of Norway's Johanne Killi (95,25) and Megan Oldham from Canada (90,00). SKICROSS: Local hero Brady Leman won the World Cup race in Craigleith (Canada). The best Azzurro was Federico Tomasoni in eighth place, while South Tyrolean Dominik Zuech finished in the round of 16.
