Winter sports association presents competition calendar

“We will once again be at the center of international winter sports events over the next three or four months. “It’s not just the World Cup organizers who work excellently for us, but also all the other clubs who repeatedly organize competitions at a very high level,” says Markus Ortler, President of the State Winter Sports Association. This winter there will once again be over 250 races taking place in South Tyrol.

Carezza starts things off The World Cup events begin with the snowboarders, who are coming to Carezza for the ninth year in a row. On Thursday, December 19th, a parallel giant slalom will take place on the Pra-Di-Tori slope on the Karerpass. Roland Filehner won here in 2011 and 2014, Nadya Ochner last year. The classics in Val Gardena and Alta Badia Immediately afterwards, from December 20th to 23rd, the Alpine skiing classics on the Saslong in Val Gardena and the Gran Risa in Alta Badia are on the program. Two speed races will take place in Val Gardena on December 20th (super-G) and 21st (downhill), while in Val Badia on December 22nd (giant slalom) and 23rd (parallel giant slalom) the technicians will race for World Cup points. Ski crossers in Innichen, cross-country skiers in Toblach Before Christmas, the ski crossers are also in action on the slopes of the Haunold in San Candido. The Hochpustertal will be the venue for these spectacular FIS World Cup races for the eleventh time in a row on December 21st and 22nd.

On December 31, 2019 and January 1, 2020, the elite in international cross-country skiing will come to South Tyrol. The Tour de Ski is once again stopping off at the Toblach Nordic Arena. The program includes two freestyle races and two classic-style pursuit races.

Natural track tobogganists compete in Platt in Passeier and Deutschnofen There are traditionally two local World Cup races in natural track tobogganing in January 2020. On January 11th and 12th, Alex Gruber, Evelin Lanthaler & Co. will race for important World Cup points in Platt in Passeier, and two weeks later on January 25th and 26th in Deutschnofen. At the beginning of the year, two stages of the Junior World Cup will also take place in Jaufental (January 4th and 5th) and Laas (January 18th and 19th). Slopstyle World Cup on the Seiser Alm The Slopstyle World Cup (freeski and snowboard) is coming to South Tyrol for the fourth time. From January 17th to 23rd, 2020, both women and men will perform daring jumps on the Seiser Alm. Antholz, the biathlon mecca The absolute winter sports highlight is the Biathlon World Championships in Antholz. From February 12th to 23rd, the world's best ski hunters will fight for gold, silver and bronze. The World Cup is coming to Antholz for the 6th time and over 160.000 spectators are expected. Top-class sport paired with a top entertainment program make Antholz and South Tyrol the mecca of biathlon for twelve days.

European Alpine Cup races begin on December 18th in Obereggen There are also several European Cup races on the South Tyrolean racing calendar this year. Traditionally, the slalom in Obereggen begins on December 18th. Three days later, a parallel slalom for women and men will be held again this year in St. Vigil in Enneberg am Kronplatz. The Sarner Speed Week begins in Reinswald on February 19, 2020. This year it's the ladies' turn again.

In biathlon, two IBU races will take place in Ridnaun (December 12th-15th) and Martell (January 13th-16th). A stage of the IBU Junior Cup will also be held in Martell in December 2019. The snowboarders, on the other hand, will compete for European Cup points in Ratschings on March 14th and 15th. Nationwide racing series In most sports there are also nationwide racing series this winter. They are the heart of the state winter sports association. Almost all local world-class athletes started their careers here. The most important series in alpine skiing is the Marlene Cup, which begins on December 8th in Sulden with a slalom and includes a total of 12 races. The Alpines also compete in the Raiffeisen Grand Prix, in the VSS series and in the Raiffeisen Südtirol Cup in the master class. Raiffeisen also supports the youth series of natural track tobogganers. The South Tyrol Cup for cross-country skiers starts in Langtaufers on December 15th and is being held for the 40th time this year.

The traditional cross-country races, such as the Pustertaler Skimarathon, Dobbiaco-Cortina, the Gsieser-Tal-Lauf and the Ridnauner Volkslauf are of course also on the program again. Numerous honors Ex-President Ambach and retired athletes honored As part of the calendar presentation, which was also attended by state governor and sports assessor Arno Kompatscher, state parliament president Josef Noggler, the national FISI board members Alfons Thoma and Gabriella Paruzzi, Sporthilfe president Giovanni Podini and VSS boss Günther Andergassen, the former state president Hermann Ambach was also present honored for his services to South Tyrolean winter sports.

There was also recognition for the skiers Werner Heel and Anna Hofer as well as the ski jumper Evelin Insam, who hung up their skis in the summer and retired as active athletes. Unfortunately, Hofer was unable to be present due to illness.
