FCS: The Sormani adventure begins with a victory

It was “only” a win against the third-bottom team. But after six winless matches in a row, that's not a given. The desired coaching effect has occurred and the club management can breathe a sigh of relief for now.

FC Südtirol started very briskly and could have taken the lead after less than a minute of play, but Manuel Fiwickeler only hit the side netting. Six minutes later the young attacker from Signat was there again, but his long-range shot was too inaccurate. 120 seconds after this offensive action, Fiwickeler had better luck: after a corner from Alessandro Campo, he was in the right place and scored to make it 1-0. What a debut for coach Adolfo Sormani.

FC Südtirol then controlled the match, but had to make their first substitution in the 23rd minute. Assist provider Alessandro Campo had to leave the field injured and Montanan Michael Cia came on to replace him. A little later, goalscorer Manuel Fiwickeler was also caught, making way for Marras in the 32nd minute.

Shortly before the half-time whistle, Furlan tried, but the midfielder's powerful shot was too imprecise. A little later the home team was able to celebrate a second time. Marras sent Cia on the road in the third minute of stoppage time, whose subsequent shot was able to scrape the defense off the line, but Lendric scored to make it 2-0. There was little to no sign of Lumezzane in the first half of the game.

FC Südtirol has everything under control

Not much happened in the second half of the game. It was only after almost an hour that Melgrati was able to convince in the duel with Benedetti. The FCS goalie was able to prevent the guests from scoring with a remarkable save.

In the 75th minute, Marras came a step too late after a beautiful Branca cross. That could have been the decision. Five minutes before the end of regular time, former FC Südtirol player Ekuban had a good opportunity for his current club Lumezzane, but his shot went wide of the home team's goal.

89 minutes had been played when Marras hit the top of the crossbar. Huge bad luck for the offensive player. De Paula almost scored in stoppage time, but Melgrati and the post stood in Lumezzane's way. In the end it was a deserved 2-0 win for the hosts.

For FC Südtirol, this ends a dry spell of six games in a row without a “threesome”. Thanks to the victory, Sormani's troops also moved up in the table and are now in eleventh place.
