Bitter! The ex-South Tyroleans celebrate against the FCS

With a win in Modena, FC Südtirol would have been almost certain of staying in the league and could even have temporarily secured a place in the playoffs. But things turned out completely differently - and that wasn't just due to the former successful coach Pierpaolo Bisoli.

With coach Bisoli, defense chief Giovanni Zaro, striker Ettore Gliozzi and substitute goalkeeper Andrea Seculin, four former South Tyroleans experienced a special afternoon against FC Südtirol. They celebrated a 1-0 home win with Modena. Zaro was even celebrated as the winning goal scorer.

Bisoli's successor Federico Valente's team and the 75 guest fans who traveled with them bit the bullet in the end. The FCS was on the verge of leaving the field undefeated for the fourth time for a long time. The White-Reds were compact, committed and largely more dangerous than their neighbors in the table. In the end, however, the opponent cheered.

Zaro hits the FCS to the core

In his second appearance on the sidelines, Bisoli had Modena play like FC Südtirol had done during his time in office: very aggressive, very defensive, very careful about few but targeted counter-attacks. One of these counterattacks led to a corner in the 67th minute, which former FCS defender Giovanni Zaro, of all people, heaved into the net.

Bisoli celebrated the 1-0 goal frenetically, but otherwise remained largely inconspicuous on the sidelines. He seemed as committed and impulsive as ever. However, there was no trace of tensions with the opposing bank - as was often the case in the past.

The key scenes

The hello wake callIn the 3rd minute, Modena created one of the few good chances: Antonio Palumbo was able to move unhindered towards the FCS goal and shoot from the edge of the penalty area. His shot goes a meter wide of the post.
The solo entertainerAt FC Südtirol this afternoon it's all about Daniele Casiraghi. However, his volley in the 13th minute and his curled free kick in the 30th minute did not pose any problems for Modena goalkeeper Gagno. Davi missed another FCS chance in the 34th minute.
The ExThe Modenesi have little success in the game, but they are dangerous from set pieces. This was also the case with the 1-0 win by ex-FCS professional Giovanni Zaro. He headed a sharp corner into the net in the 67th minute. Poluzzi was there, but couldn't make a decisive distraction.

With this victory, the first since a whopping twelve unsuccessful appearances, Modena is catching up with FC Südtirol. Both now share eleventh place with the same number of points – still closer to the playoff places than to the playout places.
