5:3 success: Bozen can continue to hope for home advantage

HCB coach Tom Pokel had to make do without Luca Franza and the ailing captain Alex Egger in the last home game before the start of the playoffs, but was able to rely on Taylor Vause for the first time in four weeks. However, this was only used sporadically and initially saw Nick Palmieri miss the first top-class chance from the bench after a few minutes of play. The guests then took the lead with their first opportunity: Hübl was unable to hold onto a Palin shot, whereupon Göhringer used the rebound. Only a short time later, Daniel Frank took advantage of a fine pass from Anton Bernard to make it 1-1 with his third goal of the season. Both teams went into the first break with this result.

Three power play goals within four minutes

The second third initially seemed to be a copy of the first round: Hübl again let a puck bounce unluckily and Rob Hisey, who was left criminally alone, made it 2-1. Now the foxes were definitely shaken awake. They now pushed vehemently into the opposing third and completely turned the result on its head within four minutes: double goalscorer Joel Broda and Matt Pope put the HCB ahead 4-2. The latter was the focus again a little later when the referee sent him to the “cool box” after an alleged swallow. So the Black Wings probably thought: If Bozen can do it, we can do it too! They shortened the score to 3:4 on the power play thanks to Dan DaSilva.

Afterwards, an open duel developed that continued to become more explosive. So the big tremors finally began in the ice wave in the final phase. Both teams had a number of chances to score, but were unable to capitalize. Among other things, HCB striker Alex Foster failed at the post. When the home team had finally survived a situation where they were outnumbered unscathed, Palmieri started to sprint into the opponent's third, played across and somehow the disc rolled off an ice skate and onto the post - before Jerry Pollastrone poked it over the line. The cheering in the stands now knew no bounds, the important victory, which gave the HCB further hope of home advantage in the playoffs, had been achieved.
