AHL: The game calendar for the new season is set

After the AHL started its debut season with 16 teams, 17 clubs are taking part in this year's championship. In addition to the proven clubs from Italy, Austria and Slovenia, Olimpija Ljubljana completes the field of participants as the second Slovenian representative.

The 2017/18 season begins with two Austrian duels on September 9th. For the remaining teams – including the five South Tyrolean clubs – the season begins a few days later on September 13th.

More games and more derbies The upcoming championship is divided into two phases: a basic round and four regionally divided groups. While the regular season involves a return round with a total of 32 games per club, around Christmas additional games are played in four regional groups of four or five teams each. These four groups are not only about important points for the overall table, but also about qualification for the Final Four for the Italian championship title. The two best-placed clubs in the two Italian groups qualify. The regular season ends on March 3rd.

Playoff start on March 7, 2018 The eight best-placed teams in the overall table make it into the playoffs, with the first three teams being able to choose their quarter-final opponents from places five to eight. The quarter and semi-final series will be played in best-of-five mode, and the champion will ultimately be crowned in best-of-seven mode.

The Alps Hockey League starts the 17/2017 season with 18 teams from three nations. The game calendar for the second year of the cross-border ice hockey championship was announced on Monday. The starting signal for this will be given on September 9th.
