AHL: Nobody wants to give out gifts

From a South Tyrolean perspective, the focus on the last matchday before Christmas is the derby between the Broncos Vipiteno and HC Gherdeina. The Wipptalers want to finally get back on the road to victory after five defeats in a row. After a strong start to the season, the “Wildpferde” have now slipped to 10th place. It was only on Wednesday that there was a 3-1 defeat against Bregenzerwald in the “Ländle”. Val Gardena, currently in 14th place, wants to forget the unfortunate defeat against Lustenau, when they were in the lead twice and still narrowly lost in the penalty shootout.

Leader Ritten has no points to give away. The “Buam” are the clear favorites in Kitzbühel. Anything other than another three points under the Ritten Christmas tree would be a surprise. Ritten suffered his only three defeats of the season, all away from home. On the seventh matchday, the “Buam” lost 3:4 in Asiago, followed by defeats in Bruneck against HC Pustertal (1:2) and in Zell am See (1:3). Kitzbühel seems to suit the Rittners, as last year they won both the first leg in Klobenstein (3:1) and the second leg in Austria (7:4). The team from Klobenstein also won this year's first duel of the season with the Tyroleans with 3-1 goals. The long-term injured Andreas Alber and Max Ploner are again missing from Ritten, but Kevin Fink is expected to return to the team.

The HC Pustertal awaits the Zeller Eisbären in Bruneck. After the 2-1 defeat that the Wolves suffered on Wednesday evening in Jesenice, a conciliatory end to the year is now expected. Neumarkt, on the other hand, has to compete in Jesenice. A win in Slovenia in third place would be a small Christmas miracle for the Wild Geese.

AHL: Nobody wants to give out gifts

Although it is Christmas Eve on Sunday, no one is thinking about giving out presents on Saturday, when the 26th round of the Alps Hockey League is on the agenda.
