Buam runs over Meran – Cavs shine again

On Thursday evening, all five local ice hockey clubs in the Alps Hockey League were in action. In the first South Tyrol derby, the Rittner Buam confidently beat Meran 5-1, which meant they were able to celebrate their second win in three games. The fans in Vipiteno had to tremble. After a confident opening third, the Broncos fell asleep a bit and allowed the guests from Kitzbühel to come close again. But Justin Maylan calmly scored the winning goal for the Wipptal team in overtime. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers confirmed their strong start to the season in Val Gardena and clearly defeated the Furies 5-1.

The Rittner Buam SkyAlps started with a lot of enthusiasm and kept Meran goalie Frederic Cloutier on his toes for almost the entire first third. After three minutes, Fink tested him for the first time, while Chiodo tried against Hawkey on the other side - both goalkeepers made a safe save. Spinell deflected a Kevin Fink shot with his stick in the sixth minute and the puck flew over the visitors' goal. The Rittner Buam's attacking efforts were rewarded in the middle of the starting third: in the first power play, Cardwell passed to Insam, who gave Cloutier the advantage with a powerful long-range shot (11.55). As a result, both goalkeepers - Cloutier against Spinell (15th) and Hawkey against Thaler (16th) - distinguished themselves once again before the half-time siren sounded for the first time in the Ritten Arena.

In the middle third, too, it was the Rittner Buam who initially set the tone. After four minutes, two HC Meran players were sent to the ice box, meaning the hosts had twice the majority on the ice. And the Buam took advantage of that skillfully: After a pass from Kevin Fink, Cardwell finished alone and gave Cloutier the disadvantage (24.02.). Inspired by the 2-0 lead, the Rittner Buam tried to follow up, but always got stuck with the strong Cloutier. The rest of the third became more and more disjointed, so that a short scuffle between Robert Öhler and Sebastian Thaler remained the highlight until the second half-time siren.

The decision was made a few minutes after the start of the final third. With two well-finished actions, the Rittner Buam increased the score to 4-0: First, Giacomuzzi claimed the puck on a counterattack and nailed it precisely into the far top corner (41.31), then Marzolini sank a great assist from Julian Kostner Housing (43.02). The game was as good as over, but Meran came back through Borgatello (56.05). The Buam immediately restored their four-goal lead with a powerful Spinel shot under the crossbar (56.32). That was the end point. Broncos celebrate in overtime The Wipptalers were highly superior to Kitzbühel in the first third and brilliantly took advantage of the opportunities presented to them. A high class difference was particularly noticeable as soon as the Broncos' first line with Mizzi, Maylan and Conci was on the ice. Mizzi also set up the first goal from Jaakko Jokinen in the power play, who almost tore through the net of the Kitzbühel goal with his hard-hitting shot. The young Eagles made many mistakes. This is emblematic of the guests' substitution error, which allowed Remy Gistopoules, after a pass across the entire ice surface, to confidently beat Paul Mocher to make it 2-0.

In the second third, however, the Eagles flipped the switch and were the team that dominated the game. The Broncos repeatedly interrupted their own flow of play with many penalties. Shortly before the half-time whistle the receipt came and Lewis Hook scored the goal to make it 2-1. Kitzbühel continued this wave of success at the beginning of the final third and scored the deserved equalizer through Friedrich Schröder. Rabanser couldn't hold on to the deflected shot and the puck rolled over the line alone.

As a result, the Broncos woke up a bit and tried to score the decisive third goal. The exchange of blows that took place in the last 10 minutes achieved nothing and it went into overtime. The Broncos' strong power play phase continued there, and they were awarded another power play situation after just a few seconds. The Wipptalers didn't miss this chance and got the extra point with a goal from Justin Maylan. Cavaliers wrestle Furie down As guests in Wolkenstein, the Unterland Cavaliers got off to a better start and took the lead after just a few minutes through Luka Nyman, who ice-coldly peppered the puck under the crossbar. However, Val Gardena didn't let this bother them for long and equalized in the first third through Matteo Luisetti. Unterland goalie Simone Peiti had no chance of scoring the goal after Luisetti left two Val Gardena defenders standing and buried the puck in the top corner.

After the restart, the Cavaliers came roaring back at high speed. The team from Unterland pressed for the lead again, while the HCG concentrated on defending. The Cavs' initiative was rewarded. Filip Kokoska first made it 2-1 with a deflection and a little later Colin Furlong had to reach behind him again when Miro Markula slammed the puck into the corner to make it 3-1. Wieser celebrates a double pack Any hopes of the Furies revolting in the final third were skilfully suppressed by the Cavaliers.
