It's over at the age of 42: Luca Ansoldi is ending his ice hockey career. However, the captain of HC Meran will not turn his back on the sport.

Luca Ansoldi has been on the ice 35 times for HCM this season and has collected 11 scorer points. The away game in the playoff quarter-finals against Cortina on March 14th was Ansoldi's last game as an active ice hockey player. As the HCM announced on Wednesday evening, the 42-year-old has ended his career.

Ansoldi enjoys absolute legendary status in Merano. He has played exclusively for the Kurstadt team for 8 years, but the offensive player wore the Adler jersey from 1999 to 2004. Ansoldi then moved to Ritten (2004 to 2006), Cortina (2006/07), Bozen (2007 to 2009), Ritten again (2009 to 2011), Milan (2011 to 2013) and Ritten again (2013 to 2016). In total, Ansoldi has won 5 Scudetti and 5 Italian Cup titles.

Even if the former national player Ansoldi has ended his career, he will not turn his back on ice hockey in Merano. “Now our number 71 will go into a well-deserved hockey retirement, but will remain with our club in a different form,” said HC Meran in a statement.
