Asiago wins the Supercup

In front of a small crowd in the Odegar Stadium, the home team, who were missing Borrelli, Marchetti, Casetti and Stevan, got off to a better start. Asiago took control of the game and had a first opportunity with Bentivoglio in the seventh minute, which Engelage destroyed in the Rittner box. Two minutes later, Frei received a two-minute penalty, but the guests survived unscathed. The champions didn't get more than one shot, again from Bentivoglio.

From the middle of the starting third, the Rittners, who had to make do without Thomas Spinell, Jan Waldner and Alexander Eisath, got better and better. First, Fauster missed a good opportunity (13th), before Carrozzi excelled when a Rittner attacker went solo (15th). Frei then got stuck on the hosts' goalie after Bentivoglio made a mistake in front of him.

When Bentivoglio had to leave the ice for two minutes (16.09:XNUMX), Ritten almost took the lead. Cole's goal was disallowed, and instead the referee sent Lutz and Cook to the penalty box for sticking. Five seconds before the end of the first period, Tessari finally tried, but was unable to beat Engelage from a tight angle.

Spinel scores, Bentivoglio equalizes

After the break, Ritten stuck with it. In the 23rd minute, Tauferer tried a long-range shot that Fink almost directed into the goal. Shortly afterwards, Markus Spinell did better, giving Carrozzi the loss from close range (23.34).

Ritten then controlled the game, but Asiago repeatedly appeared dangerous in front of Engelage. In the 29th minute, Bentivoglio did everything on his own, but didn't hit the goal. When first Ceresa and then Iori had to go to the penalty box, the hosts equalized. Sean Bentivoglio fired a grenade that Engelage could no longer defuse: 1-1 after 29.50 minutes.

In the 32nd minute, Ansoldi tried a shot from the blue line, which Carrozzi was able to save. Afterwards, Asiago survived two time penalties (Miglioranzi, Lutz) without really being in danger of conceding a goal.

The final phase then belonged to the yellow-reds. First, a shot from Iori fell on the goal line (37'), before Pace was denied twice by the strong Andrew Engelage in the last minute of the second period.

Nigro is the match winner

In the final third, Asiago seemed more determined. First, Munari (42') and Magnabosco (43') missed two good opportunities before Nigro hit the mark. After a commotion, he switched gears quickest and put the puck behind Engelage in the Rittner box.

Ritten seemed shocked by the home team's goal. Ansoldi tried a deflected shot that went over (45'). Asiago continued to be the more dangerous team. Ulmer forced Engelage into a brilliant performance in the 47th minute before Lutz hammered the puck just past the far post with five minutes left. Ansoldi immediately missed Rittner's best opportunity in the final period of the game when he missed alone in front of Carrozzi (56th).

In the final phase, Ritten pressed for the equalizer and took a timeout with 70 seconds left to discuss the last attacks. But with one more man there was no longer anything worth counting. A time penalty against Iori four seconds before the end didn't change that. It remained a narrow 2-1 home win for Asiago.

Asiago wins the Supercup

The 2015/16 ice hockey season officially opened on Thursday evening with the Supercup between champions Asiago and cup winners Rittner Buam. The game was played in the Odegar Arena in Asiago. The home team won the trophy for the third time in the club's history.
