Biel wins the DolomitenCup

500 fans in the stands, who, under strict Corona regulations, created an atmosphere that was sorely missed in South Tyrol's ice stadiums for so long. A final that was intense, uncompromising and at a high level. And in the end, a more than worthy winner - the DolomitenCup once again makes you really excited for the upcoming ice hockey season, despite the high summer temperatures.

In the end, the shining winner in the Würth Arena was not the record winner Augsburg, who won the last two editions and would have liked to have taken home their sixth trophy, but the three-time Swiss champion Biel, who also won thanks to their outstanding goalkeeper Joren van Pottelberghe was crowned champion (he didn't concede a goal in the entire tournament). Biel and Augsburg give each other nothing Pre-season? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! After just a few moments in the final it became clear that Augsburg and Biel would give each other nothing. After just three minutes there was the first physical argument, after which Panther crack Scott Valentine had to go into the cooler for four minutes. That was the start of a third in which the referees handed out penalties to a total of seven players. So there was a lot of fire going on - also because the 400 or so Augsburg fans who came along created a cauldron atmosphere. But twice things got very quiet in the Würth Arena: namely when the strong Biel team scored their two goals.

First, Gaëtan Haas - who was under contract with the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL last year - gave up Panther goalie Markus Keller with a fine wrist shot. Then Yannick Rathgeb made it 2-0 with a powerful blueliner during a power-number situation. Augsburg had little to counter in this starting third.

That changed in the middle section, in which the DolomitenCup record winner became more courageous offensively and came dangerously close to scoring the next goal several times in two outnumbered situations. But the Biel goalkeeper van Pottelberghe was simply impossible to beat that evening - as in the semi-final against the Eisbären Berlin - and caused the Augsburg offensive forces to despair several times. The result therefore didn't change and the Biel triumph in Neumarkt was perfect at 22.19:XNUMX p.m. The numerous Augsburg fans still celebrated – because the DolomitenCup was once again an ice hockey festival.

The polar bears clinched third place By late afternoon, the Eisbären Berlin and the Italian national team had already played for third place. The reigning German champions were a size too big for the Blue Team and won 4-1. Yannick Veilleux, Zach Boychuk, Kevin Clark and Mark Zengerle scored Berlin's goals, while Angelo Miceli scored a consolation goal for the Azzurri.

Biel wins the DolomitenCup

The 15th edition of the DolomitenCup is history – and ended with a premiere winner. The EHC Biel-Bienne won the tournament in its first participation in Neumarkt and dethroned the record champions the Augsburg Panthers with a 2-0 triumph in a highly exciting final on Sunday evening.
