Bolzano fights self-sacrificingly, but leaves Vienna as a loser

The HCB was accompanied to the Albert-Schultz-Halle by around 200 fans (including many South Tyrolean students in Vienna), but the White-Reds were missing three players on the ice: In addition to Marco Insam, MacGregor Sharp and Hannes Oberdörfer also had to pass. Meanwhile, Enrico Miglioranzi celebrated his return to HC Bozen – in the first defensive block alongside captain Alex Egger.

The guests set a high pace from the start and showed the necessary physical toughness. However, Tomassoni went too far and had to take a seat in the penalty box. The Caps used the first power play to take the lead through Jonathan Ferland after 4.16:XNUMX minutes. However, this only lasted four minutes before Zisser cleared Gander nicely and he pushed the puck past Vienna goalie Zaba over the line. Afterwards, Santorelli and Gander even missed the opening goal.

In the second third, Bozen continued its pressure phase, but Pance missed the second goal again. On the other side, the Viennese team proved to be merciless when outnumbered: in the 27th minute, a Schweda shot hit the post, Sylvester reacted quickest and sank the disc into the goal. The hosts were now almost unstoppable. Just 54 seconds after the 2-1, Schweda served his teammate Ouellette, who gave goalie Hübl no chance to defend. Coach Tom Pokel reacted with an immediate timeout, but as a result his charges only slowly found their way into the game. The Capitals now set the tone, to the delight of the 5.400 spectators.

In the final section, the South Tyroleans put everything on one card again. The aggressive forechecking created several opportunities. Bernard left one unused, and Pichè had the post in the way of two others. However, as the encounter continued, the Bolzano team's hopes dwindled and Vienna finally managed to take the lead over time. The HCB now travels on to Znojmo, where the next championship match is scheduled for Saturday.
