Bozen, which had to make do without the offensive trio Palmieri, Gander and Ramoser in the “No Worries Ice Arena”, was under a lot of pressure at the start of the game. Linz started strong and took the lead through Broda after just under four minutes. The former Bolzano player caught HCB goalkeeper Melichercik on the wrong foot from a tight angle and, with the help of the Slovakian goalkeeper, made it 1-0. Even after that, the Upper Austrians remained in control, but missed the 2-0 lead several times - including a four-minute advantage. As the game progressed, the people of Bolzano became stronger and had their first opportunities, but the “Foxes” were unable to score an equalizer in the first third.

Afterwards, Bozen was unlucky when Gellert, outnumbered (Piche was in the cooler after a nasty stick hit on Vallerand), failed to hit the post with a hammer. In this phase of the game, the HCB was the more active team, but was unable to capitalize on it.

The final third belonged to the home team again. Linz pushed vehemently for the 2-1 and launched attack after attack, but the Stahlstadters were initially unable to take the lead again. Bozen defended itself with all its might and tried to create pinpricks in the Linz defense with its own counter-attacks. In regular time, nothing changed with the score - with the score at 1:1, the game went into extra time.

Both teams gave each other nothing in overtime. Both Linz and Bozen were looking for a decision, so an exciting back and forth developed. In the end, the home team had the better end for themselves: After a Linz attack, the puck happily found its way into the Bozen goal via Leblerett, thus sealing the Stahlstadt victory.
