Red Bull Salzburg was a lot too big for HC Bozen that evening, who had to travel home empty-handed. The South Tyroleans played in Salzburg without Rick Schofield and Angelo Esposito, while Matthias Trattnig was missing from the home side. In the well-filled ice arena, the home team set a high pace from the start and hardly allowed any counterattacks from the HCB. The White-Reds' first big chance came towards the middle of the starting third when goalie Gracnar distinguished himself after a nice move over Sharp and Santorelli. A little later it was Whitfield and Sharp who caused danger. The latter in particular performed well several times, but always found his match in Gracnar. After Strömberg missed another chance, it was Salzburg's turn again, but Bruckner missed the 1-0. Then John Esposito failed after a solo attempt.

Pichè makes a mistake and hits

At the beginning of the second third, the HCB initially survived a situation of being outnumbered, but the first goal was only postponed. Pichè tried to make amends immediately, but after a solo shot he missed the goal. Salzburg then took the reins and created the next opportunities through Nödl and Hofer. Salzburg then took over the game design again. Hofer set up Christler, who fired an unstoppable long-range shot and restored the old two-goal lead. Pokel now put everything on one card and took the goalkeeper off the ice for a sixth skater, but the goal was no longer possible. The Salzburg victory was complete.

The HCB will have the chance to get back on the road to success in the home game against table laggards Ljubljana on Friday evening (19.45 p.m.).
