Champions League: HCB Südtirol goes down in Turku

HCB Südtirol had to make do in Finland without the three new signings Nesbitt, Cullen and Keller. In Turku, however, defender Seikola was missing. The home team started briskly, immediately pushed the ball and took the lead shortly after the start of the game. When Hofer was sitting in the penalty box, Tukonen scored after a mistake in the defense of the Italian record champions (2nd). But Bozen did not surrender to its fate and almost equalized with Gander. After a quarter of an hour, Smolanek made it 2-0 when he pushed the puck over the line from close range. A dubious hit (high stick), but the referee decided on a goal after using the video evidence. The score remained that way until half-time and the Foxes bravely stood up to the Finns.

That was to change in the second half of the game, when the Talferstadt team collapsed completely. In the second 20 minutes, the home team scored six goals (by six different players) in front of almost 2000 spectators and pulled away to 8-0. Hübl, who recorded a total of 29 saves, had enough after 40 minutes and gave up his place for Hell.

The Bolzano goalie only had to admit defeat once more in the final third, when Seigo gave him the disadvantage. The match finally ended 9-0, the HCB was taught a lesson by Turku. A lesson that is due to the fact that the Foxes have only been on the ice for a week. Nothing more was to be expected.
