Continental Cup: Atyrau keeps Ritten in the game

Odense got off to a dream start and took the lead after just 48 seconds. Robin Sterner converted a pass from Rasmus Bjerrum to make it 1-0. This narrow lead for Odense remained until the first third break, although the Kazakhs were far more offensive than the Danes with 14:6 shots.

In the middle third, Mikkel Nielsen increased the score to 34-2 after a pass from Tony Romano in the 0th minute. But Atyrau didn't give up and reduced the score to 1:2 before the last third break with defender Aleksei Ryzhikh.

In the final third, the Kazakhs threw everything forward, but the Danes' defense held firm. 70 seconds before the final siren, Atyrau took their goalie off the ice for a sixth skater and got the deserved equalizer with Aleksei Ryzhikh 14 seconds before the end.

A hard setback for Odense, who were punished coldly by Albert Vishnyakov after 4.35 minutes of extra time and thus lost out with 2:3 goals. The Kazakhs, on the other hand, celebrated their first victory in this final.

The Rittner Buam still have a chance of winning the super final of the Continental Cup. At 19 p.m. the hosts have to win against Nottingham after regular time - then the historic triumph would be perfect.
