Continental Cup: Frei and Borgatello shoot Ritten to victory

The Rittners had to do without the injured Andreas Alber and Max Ploner in the important Continental Cup opening game, but Alex Frei from Kalter returned to the team. Coach Riku Lehtonen also had the two new additions, defender Bretton Stamler and attacker Kyle Jean, at his disposal.

Ritten dominated the game in the early stages and also had a good scoring opportunity with Dan Tudin. In the 13th minute it was Alex Frei who shot the home team into the lead. In the middle third, Grenoble increased the pressure and had several top-class chances to score, but the French kept biting their teeth against the extremely strong Killeen. Dan Tudin, however, had the best opportunity for Ritten in the 32nd minute when he was outnumbered and failed alone in front of Horak.

26 seconds before the last break, Alexandre Giroux was given a two-minute penalty. With consequences, because immediately after the break, Ritten and captain Christian Borgatello increased the lead to 2-0 in the power play with a powerful shot from the blue line. Twelve minutes before the end of the game, Dan Tudin could have made it 3-0 with a double advantage, but he missed before Horak. Nothing more happened after that and the final score remained 2-0.

Patrick Killeen was named player of the evening, as he was able to defuse all 29 of the French shots. With this victory, Ritten also takes the lead in the table ahead of Jegesmedvek Miskolc. The Hungarians narrowly defeated Nomad Astana with 2-1 goals in a penalty shootout in the afternoon.

On Saturday against Nomad Astana On Saturday evening at 20 p.m. there will be a duel between Ritten and the Kazakhs from Nomad Astana in Klobenstein. Jegesmedvek Miskolc, on the other hand, will face Grenoble at 16 p.m. The winner of the Rittner semi-final and the second-place team will advance to the final of the Continental Cup in mid-January.
