Continental Cup: Ritten hopes for help from Herning

Not only were the injured Ambrosi, Julian Kostner and Andreas Alber missing from Ritten today, but also Eric Johansson, who had to sit out due to stomach flu. The home team started cautiously, while the Kazakhs, who had already qualified for the finals, played easily and took the lead after just three minutes. Alexei Vorontsov beat goalkeeper Chris Holt on the counterattack to make it 1-0. The Kazakhs then missed another good scoring opportunity with Denis Klemenshov. The second goal came in the 11th minute. Holt couldn't hold on to a long-range shot from Miroshnichenko, Peter Fabus reacted quickest and made it 2-0. Ritten was shocked and just two minutes later Patrik Svitana even increased the score to 3-0.

The Buam got into the game better in the middle third, but were denied by Thomas Spinell hitting the post and Dan Tudin hitting guest goalkeeper Jan Chovan. Pavlodar, on the other hand, took advantage of a counterattack: Richard Huna left Ingemar Gruber standing and scored to make it 4-0. The match was finally decided. The Kazakhs controlled the game in the final third, Ritten had a few good chances, but nothing changed in the result.

Ritten now has to hope for a win for the Danes in the evening game between the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven and Blue Fox Herning in order to make it to the “Super Final”. For Bremerhaven, a win in extra time or in the penalty shootout is enough to qualify.
