Continental Cup: Ritten starts with a defeat

The “Buam” had their first chance of the game in the fourth minute with Alex Frei, but Yunost goalie Dmitri Milchakov was able to fend off his shot with his leg pads. Then the home team got better and better into the game and took the lead after eight minutes. The Russian striker Mikhail Plotnikov left Brad Cole standing and gave Patrick Killeen the disadvantage for the first time in the Rittner box. Yunost stayed on the trigger and was only allowed to celebrate again for 163 seconds. Alexander Karakulko reacted quickest to Killeen's rebound and scored from close range to make it 2-0. Afterwards, both teams had good chances, but the home team in particular repeatedly failed due to the extremely strong Patrick Killeen.

In the middle third, Frei missed a good opportunity to score, goalkeeper Michalkov surpassed himself with a brilliant reflex. This was followed again by the Killeen show, who destroyed five huge chances for Minsk within just a few minutes. In the 36th minute, Ritten could have made things exciting again, but captain Christian Borgatello, who was completely alone, narrowly missed the goal with a hammer shot. So after 40 minutes Minsk still had a 2-0 lead.

In the final third, Ritten threw everything forward and was rewarded four minutes before the end of the game. Hofer passed it back to Dan Tudin, who hit the far corner to make it 1-2. The “Buam” then took a sixth field player off the ice for Killeen, but nothing changed in the result. Defender Roland Hofer and goalscorer Mikhail Plotnikov were named best players of the match.

On Saturday against Astana Tomorrow, Saturday, the AHL and Italian champions will face Nomad Astana at 13 p.m. CET. The two teams already know each other from the semi-final in mid-November in Klobenstein, where the Kazakhs were able to win 3-1.

Continental Cup: Ritten starts with a defeat

Ritten narrowly lost the opening game of the Continental Cup final against hosts Minsk in Minsk on Friday afternoon. The Belarusian champions beat the “Buam” in a highly exciting match with 2-1 goals.
