Continental Cup: Ritten misses semi-finals

It was already clear before the game: both the Hungarians and the Rittner had to win in order to qualify for the semi-finals. In the decider against Ferencvarosi, Ritten coach Janne Saavalainen was able to rely on Bozen loanee Ivan Tauferer, as in the opening match against Laibach. But striker Alexander Eisath was not available to him.

The guests from Budapest took the lead after just 1.300 minutes in front of almost 2.48 spectators. Canadian star player Brett Switzer defeated Ritten goalkeeper Kevin Lindskoug with a precise shot to make it 1-0. Shortly afterwards, Ferencvarosi's Jere sweater had to go into the cooler for 2 minutes. The Buam only needed 7 seconds to equalize with Simon Kostner to make it 1-1. In the 9th minute, the Hungarians had a great chance to make it 2-1 with Myles Fitzgerald, but goalie Lindskoug was at his post. A little later, Ritten's number 1 was the focus again when he excelled twice against goalscorer Switzer. After just under a quarter of an hour, the Hungarians took the lead again: Lauri Karmeniemi made it 2-2 with a hammer shot in the lead (Ryan Obuchowski was in the penalty box). Shortly before the break in the first period, the guests had the next good chance with captain Gergo Nagy, but Lindskoug once again outgrew himself. After the first 1 minutes, the Szabolcs team remained in a narrow but well-deserved lead.

In the middle section the home team increased the tempo, but Simon Kostner and Alex Frei missed 3 top-class shots. Stefan Quinz probably had the best opportunity to equalize, but he failed from an optimal position. The Rittners dominated the match, but were too careless with their chances. Matt Lane and Frei missed 2 huge opportunities.

In the final third, the sensational Lindskoug kept Buam in the match with several brilliant saves. Ritten threw everything forward again, but the equalizer was unsuccessful. Lane had the score 2-2 shortly before the end, but he somehow shot past the Hungarian goal from close range. The decision was made in the 59th minute. Attila Nemeth scored to make it 3-1. So the dream of reaching the Continental Cup semi-finals was shattered for the Rittners, who had to settle for second place behind Ferencvarosi (5 points) with 3 points from 2 games.

Continental Cup: Ritten misses semi-finals

Italian champion Ritten lost the last game of the 2nd round of the Continental Cup against Hungarian champion Ferencvarosi 1:3 in Klobenstein on Sunday evening. Huge disappointment for the Buam, who missed out on a place in the semi-finals.
