Continental Cup: Strong people from Bolzano have to admit defeat to Donbass

Bolzano went into the second tournament match today with the same players who lost out against Rouen on Friday. However, coach Brian McCutcheon made a change to the line system: Alexander Egger played alongside Hannes Oberdörfer in defense, while Daniel Fabris played together with Troy Barnes. Donetsk had to do without striker Randy Robitaille, who was on the ice without permission to play in the first match and was suspended.

The White-Reds were very focused from the start and narrowed down the space on defense. The home team initially couldn't cope with this at all and only became dangerous with a shot from defender Peter Podhradsky. On the other hand, the HCB players took center stage several times: First Ryan Flynn tried to get out of the crowd, then Anton Bernard tested goalkeeper Jan Laco. Only a power play situation put Bozen in trouble. At first they were able to withstand the pressure, but after 16.31 minutes Lukas Kaspar took advantage of a great opportunity and scored to make it 1-0.

At the beginning of the second third, Marco Insam remained in the dressing room due to a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Pontus Moren in the second attacking block. Although Bozen was now allowed to operate with one more man, things once again became dicey in front of their own goal. This time Tomas Duba was there and thwarted Podhradsky's shot. The HCB goalie then distinguished himself with two more great saves. Halfway through the game, Flynn moved alone in front of the opponent's goal, but goalkeeper Laco was able to take the puck away from him. After 35.30 minutes it was again the Bolzano number 12 who had the equalizer. This time he was unable to capitalize on a good pass from Mark McCutcheon. And so it happened as it had to happen for Bozen: Duba was unable to decisively fend off a shot from Lukas Kaspar and Denis Kochetkov pushed the rebound over the line.

In the final third the space became narrower for the people of Bolzano. Nevertheless, the Foxes managed to put the guests under pressure until ten minutes before the end of the game. The final phase belonged to Donetsk again. In the 54th minute, Tomas Duba had to overcome a shot from Vitali Donika, and immediately afterwards the Donbass striker hit the crossbar. Two minutes later, the White-Red goalkeeper couldn't prevent the score from making it 0-3. Clay Wilson completed a dream combination with Yevgeni Dadonov and Vaclav Nedorost to make it 3-0.

Rouen falls to Metallurgist Zhlobin Already in the afternoon, Rouen suffered its first defeat of the tournament against Metallurg Zhlobin. The Belarusians, however, celebrated their first win with a 3-1 win.

After an even first third in which no goals were scored, Zhlobin noticeably increased the pace in the middle period and took the lead with a quick one-two from Kirill Brikun and Alexei Yeremin. Immediately before the second break, Nikita Remezov increased the score to 3-0 despite being shorthanded. This was also the preliminary decision, because Rouen showed improvement in the final third, but could no longer turn the tables. In the end all it took was a consolation goal from Francois-Pierre Guenette, who had already scored twice in the win against HC Bozen.
