The Blue Team remains without a win in their World Cup preparations

The Mair team, which tackled the encounter with the Slovenians without Armin Helfer, Marco Insam, Andreas Bernard, Alexander Egger and Alex Trivellato, acted too harmlessly in the many power play situations that presented themselves and were punished coldly for it. After a goalless first third, in which Slovenia was a little closer to 1-0 than Italy, the first goal of the evening came in the middle period: Miha Verlic scored a rebound to give the Slovenians a 1-0 lead. Because the Blue Team subsequently achieved little concrete offense - including with two more men on the ice - the guests remained in the narrow lead until the final third.

At the beginning of the last period of the game, Markus Gander scored the equalizer. The HCB attacker took advantage of a mistake by goalie Matija Pintaric and netted an empty goal to make it 1-1. Twelve minutes before the end, the Slovenians took the lead again: After a pass from Miha Verlic, Jan Urbas was in the right place at the second post and made it 2-1. The Slovenians even managed to make it 3-1 in five minutes thanks to David Rodman. In the final phase, the “Azzurri” tried to score the next goal, but were largely unsuccessful. In the final seconds of the game, Miha Verlic made it 4-1 with his second goal of the evening: his diagonal shot was deflected by an Italian defender and found its way into the goal.

After the test against the Slovenians (who will also take part in the World Cup in the top division in May, editor's note), the Italian national team will move to Brixen, where the final phase of World Cup preparation will begin on April 25th. The last friendly match before the World Cup will take place on May 2nd in Milan against the USA, before the World Cup opener against Slovakia on May 6th in Cologne.
