EC Red Bull Salzburg

History: The Salzburg ice hockey club EC Red Bull Salzburg was founded in its current form in 2000. In the 2003/2004 season, Salzburg's ice hockey team secured promotion to the EBEL and have been crowned Austrian champions a total of four times, namely in the 2006/07 seasons. 2007, 08/2009, 10/2010 and 11/XNUMX.

Home venue: Traditionally also known as the “Volksgarten”, the Salzburg ice arena offers space for a total of 3200 visitors and has two ice surfaces measuring 3.600 square meters, one of which is outdoors. Since 2005, the EC Red Bull Salzburg has been holding the “Red Bulls Salute”, a pre-season and international invitational ice hockey tournament there.

Season 2012/13: After a mixed season in the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League, Salzburg improved significantly in the play-offs, but in the end they were unable to live up to their role as favorites and were eliminated in the semi-finals against Vienna.

Team squad: The first new signing for the coming season is striker Joe Motzko, who is moving from DEL club ERC Ingolstadt to Salzburg. Among others, top performers Marc Cullen, Joe's brother (played at HCP for the past three years) and NHL player Matt Cullen were extended. Among other things, Troy Milam (Sparta Prague) was signed as an important support for the defense. From now on, Don Jackson will have the coaching reins in his hands.

EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz

History: The EHC Black Wings Linz was founded in 1992 and has been playing in the top Austrian league since the 2000/01 season. To date, the Upper Austrians have won two championship titles, in 2003 and 2012.

Home venue: The home of the Black Wings is the No Worries Ice Arena, which has a capacity of around 3.800 spectators. After winning the championship in 2012, it was decided to expand the hall to 4.750 seats. In addition to the Black Wings' home games, senior and U20 international games also took place in the stadium.

Season 2012/13: After sixth place in the regular round, EHC Linz proved to be the strongest team in the placement round, winning eight of their ten matches. In the playoffs, after the quarter-final victory over EC Villacher SV, the Upper Austrians finally had to give way to the KAC in the semi-finals, who later became champions.

Team squad: In goal this year, the Linzers are relying on the Canadian Michael Ouzas, who recently delivered exceptional performances in Zagreb. The Canadian Andrew Jacob Kozek, the top scorer of the last EBEL season, was brought to the Untere Donaulände, while top scorer Pat Leahy has extended his contract. The squad is completed by, among others, the two Canadian strikers Jason Ulmer (EHC Munich) and Brad Moran (Saipa). In the coming season, however, four players will appear in the ranks of league rivals Dornbirner EC and Vienna Capitals.

HDD Telemach Olimpija Ljubljana

History: The traditional club from the Slovenian capital, which was founded in 1928 under the name Ilirija, is a thirteen-time Yugoslavian and Slovenian champion and has been taking part in the highest Austrian championship since 2007. At that time, the club achieved its best result to date in the EBEL by reaching the final. In the final round, the Slovenians had to admit defeat to EC Red Bull Salzburg.

Home venue: The HDD Telemach Olimpija Ljubljana plays its home games in the Tivoli Sports Hall, which can accommodate up to 4.500 spectators. In the 2012/13 regular season, an average of almost 2900 spectators made their way to the ice stadium.

Season 2012/13: The playoffs took place last season without the Slovenians. Ljubljana finished the EBEL championship in ninth place. At home, however, Olimpija won its 13th Slovenian championship title.

Team squad: In attack, the traditional club from Slovenia has secured the services of the Canadian Pascal Morency (Arizona Sundogs), as well as the two Slovenians Gregor Koblar (EC Salzburg II) and Ziga Pesut (BK Mlada Boleslav U20). The American Jerry Kuhn was confirmed in goal, while another goalie, Ales Sila (Slavija Ljubljana), was hired. Among those who left the club was Canadian Chris D'Alvise (Dornbirner EC), who was actually supposed to play for HC Bozen in the 2010/11 season, but left the state capital after just three days. Defender Patrick Coulombe and striker Brock McBride, however, have said goodbye to their league rivals in the direction of Graz and Villach respectively.
