DEL: Munich almost certainly first - Cologne climbs to fourth place

Cologne (SID) Champion Red Bull Munich has all but secured first place after the main round in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). Coach Don Jackson's team won 48-3 (1-1, 1-0, 0-2) at Adler Mannheim on matchday 0 and, with 103 points, is twelve points ahead of the Nuremberg Ice Tigers, who play at the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven suffered a surprising 3:6 (1:4, 1:2, 1:0) defeat. Bremerhaven (72 points) is fifth thanks to its eighth win in the last nine games and is therefore in a direct play-off place. In the fight for the further play-off places, the Kölner Haie (73) also achieved an important victory with a 4:2 (2:0, 1:2, 1:0) against bottom team Straubing Tigers and are now fourth. The Grizzlys Wolfsburg, on the other hand, lost to the penultimate Krefeld Piguine 3:4 (1:0, 1:1, 1:2, 0:1) after extra time and are in sixth place with 71 points. In a hard-fought game, title favorites Munich prevailed with goals from Dominik Kahun (1st, 56th) and Brooks Macek (46th) in Mannheim. Andrew Desjardins (9th) scored the equalizer for the Eagles. "It was a good game that had play-off character. We did the right things in the important moments against strong Mannheimers," Munich striker Frank Mauer told Sport1. Due to the Nuremberg defeat, the Eisbären Berlin (89) can move into second place with a home win against the Augsburg Panthers on Wednesday.
