The DolomitenCup is firmly in Augsburg’s hands

The DEL duel offered the fans an absolute treat; the match offered ice hockey at a high level from the start. It took just 35 seconds for the hard rubber disc to fidget in the net for the first time. The defending champions from Augsburg took the lead with the first offensive action of the evening: Mike Connolly completed a nice combination game to make it 1-0. South Tyrolean coach Stefan Mair's team tried to respond immediately, but was unable to capitalize on two power play situations. Augsburg did much better with one more man on the ice. After Louie Caporusso hit the post, Dan DaSilva was there and made it 2-0. At this point the game clock showed 10.30:14 minutes. The Panthers had really tasted blood and were even pushing for the third goal. The unbroken offensive drive was to be the Swabians' downfall a little later, because Philipp Schlager launched a counterattack in the XNUMXth minute and completed it with a backhander into the top corner.

After the goal, the Wild Wings pushed in front of the opponent's goal, but were rarely able to finish. Augsburg goalie Keller only really had to intervene when Schlager shot from point-blank range towards the middle of the second third. In return, Ryan Bayda found his master in Dimitri Pätzold. Immediately before the break, the Panthers missed the third goal again. This time it wasn't Pätzold who stood in their way, but the goal post. Fabio Carciola hit the puck against the post.

Schwenningen was challenged in the final third. The Black Forest team stepped up a gear and tried to restrict the opponent in their third. The best chance initially fell to Kyle Greentree, who scored the equalizer in the power play. Augsburg, for its part, used the available space to repeatedly launch dangerous counterattacks. This was also the case in the 46th minute, when Daniel Weiss failed to hit the crossbar. However, the decisive third goal was only postponed, because in the 52nd minute, DaSilva took advantage of a lack of attention from the Augsburg defense to reach out on the right wing and fire a well-placed shot towards Pätzold. This one was left behind. Afterwards, Aston Rome and Daniel Hacker had the chance to bring the Wild Swans back into the game, but they had the worse end in a one-on-one with goalie Keller. In the final phase, the Panthers didn't let anything go wrong and wrapped up their second tournament victory.
