The Dolomites Cup is more crowded than ever before

Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg from the German professional league DEL are coming to South Tyrol for the first time. The team made it to the semi-finals with stars like Matthew Dzieduszycky, Norman Milley and Kai Hospelt. The second participant from the DEL are the Augsburg Panthers, who were already impressive at the first Dolomites Cup in 2006. The Swabians reached eighth place in the regular season this year and narrowly missed the quarter-finals in the subsequent pre-playoffs.

The SC Langnau Tigers come from Switzerland to the Pustertal and Unterland. The Emmental team had already taken part in the tournament in 2008 and narrowly missed out on winning the tournament in the penalty shootout against Frankfurt. The traditional Swiss club was unable to prevent relegation to the NLB despite players like Kurtis McLean and Pascal Pelletier as well as Simon Moser and the indestructible Moggi twin brothers Claudio and Sandro. The foundation stone for immediate resurgence is now to be laid in South Tyrol.

It should also be exciting to watch the two EBEL participants in the tournament: Villacher SV, the sixth-placed team in the league, is coming to the Dolomites Cup. The HC Innsbruck has assured its participation. The “Sharks”, who took part in the tournament in 2007 and 2008, finished in last place last season, but now want to move up again with a team hungry for success.

The sixth participant, HC Pustertal, is also trying to improve performance. The Wolves had big plans in the domestic Serie A this year, but ultimately failed in the semi-finals against eventual champions Asiago. The Pusterers are taking part in the Dolomites Cup for the third time this year.

The Dolomites Cup is the strongest preparatory ice hockey tournament in Italy. The preliminary round will take place from August 21st to August 24th in Bruneck and Neumarkt, the finals will take place on August 25th in the Würth Arena in Neumarkt.

The Dolomites Cup is more crowded than ever before

For the first time, six professional ice hockey teams from Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland are taking part in the international Dolomites Cup. The tournament will take place again this year in August in Bruneck and Neumarkt.
