This is the cross-border championship with clubs from Austria, Slovenia, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

The approval was granted by Giancarlo Bolognini, President of the Italian Ice Sports Federation, who consulted for more than three hours with LIHG President Tommaso Teofoli. The fact that the HCB would receive approval had been in the air since Tuesday. Official approval was given 24 hours later. It is a historic moment for the record champions, who have won 19 titles in their history. From Thursday preparations will begin for the first season in the EBEL, one of the most renowned leagues in Europe.

Dieter Knoll clarifies the final details in Austria

Bozen's managing director Dieter Knoll has already set off for Austria to clarify the final details with Christian Feichtinger, the EBEL boss, and possibly also sign the contract for the coming season. After the Italian association approved the HCB, twelve clubs will take part in the EBEL in the 2013/14 season. Eight clubs come from Austria (Klagenfurt, Villach, Salzburg, Vienna, Dornbirn, Innsbruck, Graz and Linz), one from Slovenia (Olimpia Laibach), one from Hungary (Fehervar) and one from the Czech Republic (Znojmo).

The championship will begin on Sunday, September 8th. The full calendar is expected to be announced within this week. According to initial indiscretions, this will involve many English weeks and a long break in February during the Olympic Games.

Bolognini: “It’s a great opportunity for the entire movement” FISG President Giancarlo Bolognini had the final word on the release for HC Bozen. Our clubs have many problems, which can also be traced back to the economic crisis. We discussed many points with the LIHG. It's time to revitalize the entire ice hockey movement. We need to invest more in communication and marketing. “In addition, cooperation between the clubs must also be strengthened,” said Bolognini in an initial reaction.

The Italian ice sports director will meet with Dieter Knoll on Monday. “It is important that HC Bozen continues to support Italian ice hockey. And I hope that those A2 clubs that take part in the new INL can reap its benefits and also help Italian ice hockey,” added Bolognini.

The LIHG is not giving up on Alleghe and Fassa

LIHG President Tommaso Teofoli also agreed with what was said. “The FISG and LIHG had the same views on the Bozen-EBEL project. It is a great opportunity to upgrade the South Tyrolean club and also gain more visibility for Italian ice hockey. The elite league will take place and together with the association we will look for solutions to get all the problems under control. I hope that Fassa and Alleghe can take part in the game. It would be important that these two clubs are there next year.”
