The HC Falcons must build a future in Italy

The national association FISG announced before the end of last season: “There will be no further approval from the association to take part in a foreign championship. Unless it’s the AHL or EBEL championships.”

It was already clear to the board at this point that the summer would be an intense one. “We have worked hard to put together a team to play in the Tyrolean elite league. Everything came together perfectly: the level is high and the time commitment for our players is manageable. We were able to realize the parents' wish to offer the children a perspective. Now it’s time to start again, take new paths and look for the best solution for the club and its future,” says Vice President Oliver Schenk.

After much consideration, the Falcons board has, in recent weeks, committed itself to taking part in the highest Italian league, Serie B. “Considering that the level corresponds to that of the elite league and that it would be the best solution for the future development of young players and our club, we asked the national association FISG with great enthusiasm. But here too we had to bow to the FISG's decision. It was said: when returning to Italy, entry into an Italian championship can only take place in Serie C, the second highest Italian league.”

The only way to participate in the Serie B championship is through success and a championship title in Serie C. “That is the only thing that can and must be our claim if we enroll in this championship. And that's what we did. Now we have to wait and see what the championship will look like and which players will be enthusiastic about this mission. Of course we hope that we can confirm the squad. Because in order to get promoted, we need every single player,” said President Alex Gusella.

The HC Falcons must build a future in Italy

The Falcons Woodone will not field an elite league team in the 2017/2018 season. The national ice hockey association FISG has not given the club any further clearance to take part in the Austrian championship. The Falcons' future lies in an Italian championship.
