HC Pustertal has a new coach

A week ago, the HCP reacted to the very poor performance so far and fired coach Mark Holick. Now a successor has been found. The Wolves' new coach comes from the far north, his name is Petri Mattila, he is 47 years old and has always worked in his home country of Finland. Mattila has several positions at the highest level and has already been a coach in the highest Finnish league (Liiga, formerly SM-Liga) with Tappara Tampere and KooKoo. As head coach, Mattila also looked after HoKi and KooKoo in the Mestis league, after taking the classic route through the various junior leagues in Finland. The coach, who had already arrived in Bruneck, gained international experience with his country's U18 national team (2002).

Now the Finnish trainer is coming to HC Pustertal and will get to work immediately. The sporting director of the HCP, Michael Pohl, said about the new addition: “Petri Mattila has experience as a coach at a high level and should continue the good development of our young players. He will also be involved in the youth program.”

The national team break comes at just the right time for Petri Mattila to get to know his new team in person and via video study. The first acid test for Armin Helfer and Co. is coming up next Tuesday: Then Ritten, the superior leader of the AHL table, will be in Brunico.
