The HCB is biting its teeth at Villach

The 3.012 spectators in the Villach town hall were treated to a duel at eye level right from the start, in which VSV scored the first highlight in the 11th minute: “Oldie” Gerhard Unterluggauer flicked the disc from the Blues into the net. In return, a shot from HCB defender Sean McMonagle hit the crossbar.

At the beginning of the middle period, goalie Jaroslav Hübl was the focus. He defused a shot from Ziga Pance with a sensational reflex. The Slovenian striker moved from Bolzano to Carinthia this summer. Likewise Rick Schofield, who, however, remained largely inconspicuous. After the pance chance, the HCB left three outnumbered situations unused. Just when Villach was complete again, Taylor Vause ran alone towards the Eagles' goal and skillfully sank the puck into the far corner. 1:1! And that one second before the third break.

However, the final period started very badly for the Foxes, as Bernard had to leave the ice for two minutes due to hooking. The third former HCB crack in the Villach ranks, Mark Santorelli, used the power play to make it 2-1 after a Unterluggauer shot. As a result, the HCB left no stone unturned, but remained far too harmless in front of the opposing goal. When Hübl went off the ice for a sixth skater, Miha Verlic finally made the final score 3-1.
