The HCB Express doesn't stop at Fehervar either

HCB coach Tom Pokel preferred the 21-year-old Smith over Marcel Melichercik for the second time this season. He justified the trust with an extremely good performance and some spectacular saves.

In the early stages, however, Smith was given little to do. The Foxes pressed into the opponent's third from the start and were rewarded with the lead in the 8th minute. After a slap shot from Ryan Glenn, Travis Oleksuk was there and pushed the puck over the line to make it 1-0. This was the Canadian center's first goal in the Bolzano jersey. Smith then defused the deals of Sagert, Sofron and Orban. On the other hand, Glenn had the chance to make it 2-0 shortly before the first half-time siren.

In the second half of the game, the HCB took the reins again and dictated the game from then on. The white and red cracks repeatedly appeared dangerously in front of the Hungarian goal, but failed to extend their lead. Marc-Olivier Vallerand had the best chance, whose solo effort was initially stopped with a foul. However, he missed the penalty due miserably.

Turbulent final minutes

In the final third it was initially the same picture: Bozen rarely allowed Fehervar to have a chance, but had no luck in the end. For example, Markus Gander, who lost his nerve in front of Fehervar goalie Rajna. In this case, however, the 2-0 was only postponed because Brodie Ried finally broke the spell in the 48th minute. After a solo from Andrew Yogan, he was there with a powerful shot. However, anyone who thought that this was the decision was far from the truth. Eight minutes before the end, Andrew Sarauer restored the old gap with a goal. Now things got hot again in the ice wave, especially when Bernard had to go into the “cooler” for two minutes. Smith now showed all his talent when he scratched Saraurer's shot off the line with his pad. He was loudly celebrated by the HCB fans - as was Nick Palmieri, who ultimately secured Bolzano's victory. He directed a Glenn shot into the net to make it 3-1. The final point of this entertaining game was Toni Bernard with a shot into the empty goal. The final score was 4-1.
