The HCB wins in Laibach and extends its lead in the table

The Foxes appeared in Slovenia without the two ailing strikers Kim Strömberg and Marco Insam. Meanwhile, new signing Angelo Esposito celebrated his debut in the white and red jersey.

Both teams struggled to find their way into the game at the start of the match. At first the home team had the better chances, HCB Südtirol responded with a good move from Trent Whitfield. The White-Reds' opening goal came in the 18.28 minute of the first period when coach Tom Pokel's boys took advantage of a power-number situation (Hocevar was in the penalty box) with MacGregor Sharp to make it 1-0.

Even after the break, the South Tyroleans put their opponents under a lot of pressure, but committed too many fouls. The Slovenians were able to take the reins in the power play. The Bolzano defense withstood the attacks for a long time, but in the 35.41 minute they conceded the goal to make it 1-1 when Judd Blackwater scored after a remarkable pass from Jeff Ulmer.

The HCB started like a fire department in the final third and took the lead again after just 107 seconds. Mathieau Beaudoin beat goalkeeper Kuhn with a backhand shot to make it 2-1. The Foxes then tried to close the bag, but Laibach defended themselves cleverly and so it remained exciting until the end. Only three seconds before the final siren, Mark Santorelli scored his fifth goal of the season to make the final score 3-1 into the Slovenians' empty goal.
