The HCB is keeping its playoff hopes alive

The Foxes thus provided the right answer to SAPA Fehervar's win against Innsbruck on Saturday and are once again approaching the playoff zone to within three points (with two matchdays remaining). At the same time, the negative run of three defeats in a row was stopped.

The encounter in the ice wave was just as evenly matched as the previous two meetings between the champions from 2013 and 2014. The HCB took the lead after just a few minutes of play through Ziga Pance, but Stefan Geier equalized to 1-1 before the first third siren. Towards the halfway point of the game, KAC top scorer Jamie Lundmark gave the Carinthians the lead for the first time and thus increased the pressure on the white-reds. However, they showed the right reaction at the beginning of the final period and equalized through Toni Bernard.

With his equalizer he sent both teams into extra time. When this passed without a goal, the HCB finally made the decision in the penalty shootout: While Rick Schofield and Derek Nesbitt hit the mark for the home team, Lundmark and Koch failed on the other side due to HCB goalie Jaroslav Hübl. The Bolzano victory was thus secured.

The HCB is keeping its playoff hopes alive

The chances of HC Bozen Fehervar stealing sixth place and thus direct playoff qualification are slim, but there is still a small glimmer of hope - also because the champions put the KAC in their place with 3-2 after a penalty shootout on Sunday evening thus achieved the full points yield.
