The HCB is clinging to the last straw

The defending champion needs help from Innsbruck and Znojmo in the “Mission Impossible”. Because only if Fehervar doesn't win again (or saves itself twice in extra time, editor's note) and the HCB wins both away matches, Simioni's troops can still make it directly into the knockout phase.

At HCB Südtirol they are well aware that this is virtually impossible. Nevertheless, the Simioni squad wants to say goodbye to the second championship phase with victories in Klagenfurt and Linz and gain self-confidence for the qualifying team. But that's not all: The Foxes also want to finally find a system that's convincing in terms of play. The White-Reds left a lot to be desired in the last few encounters, especially in the power play. Coach Simioni is slowly but surely running out of ideas as to how he should put the “special teams” together for outnumbered situations so that goals are scored.

First to Klagenfurt, then to Linz

In the penultimate match of the regular season, the HCB, who have to do without the long-term injured Galvins and Hell, go to Klagenfurt. The Austrian record champions theoretically still have a chance of overtaking Graz in the rankings and will therefore do everything they can to inflict a defeat on the South Tyroleans. Also because tenth-placed Dornbirn is only two points behind Klagenfurt and can still overtake the KAC.

The basic round for the HCB in Linz comes to an end. The Upper Austrians won't be handing out any gifts either, especially since they have to defend second place in the table.

Their chances of finishing sixth in the table are minimal, three points behind Fehervar with only two games left. But the HCB will cling to this last straw – until the end.
