The HCB first has to bow to the KAC in the penalty shootout

The Füchse played in the Klagenfurt town hall with all squad players - apart from French defender Kevin Hecquefeuille, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent after just a few days. Meanwhile, the KAC relied on former HCB top scorer Colton Fretter, who left a lasting impression in the state capital with 2010 points in 11 games in the 55/45 season.

The game started very badly for Alex Egger and Co.: After just 3.25 minutes, Tyler Scofield scored to make it 1-0 for the home team. Bozen had difficulties in the game from the start and often punished themselves with unnecessary fouls.

It was only in the second third that the HCB was able to make the game more balanced and clearly create a goal threat. However, the Carinthian case remained locked. At the beginning of the third period, guest goalie Hübl had to reach behind him for the second time when Kreuzer completed a counterattack to make it 2-0. When a large part of the spectators thought Bolzano was already on the losing end, the South Tyroleans struck back. And how: First Mathieau Beaudoin shortened the score with his first goal of the season, then MacGregor Sharp scored to make it 2-2 and send both teams into extra time.

This went without any excitement and so the decision was made in a penalty shootout. Klagenfurt had the better end there with Thomas Koch's goal.

HCB Südtirol suffered its third defeat in a row when visiting the reigning EBEL champions from Klagenfurt. However, the White-Reds fought back from a 0-2 deficit and only had to admit defeat 2-3 in the penalty shootout.
