HCB Südtirol starts with a win

In the first third, Tom Pokel's team sold their skin dearly. The people of Bolzano were solid on the defensive and kept Graz at bay. Although the Foxes have only trained for a few hours and the team is not yet well-established, the Pokel team acted surprisingly disciplined and very orderly.

Philipp Pinter only had his first opportunity towards the middle of the starting third, but Hübl was at his post when the Graz captain had the chance. The guests then tried Daniel Frank, who was served by the eye-catching Taylor Vause, but was denied by Dahm. A little later, Vause did it alone, but, like Frank before him, got stuck on the Graz goalie.

Even after the first break, the Talferstädter closed the doors. Only when the Graz team were able to operate with one more man did things get hectic a few times in the Bolzano third, although the White-Reds were not in real danger of conceding a goal. With the first advantage situation in their own favor, the Foxes took the lead in the 31st minute when Anton Bernard put the puck into the home team's goal. The score remained at this level until the second siren.

In the final third, all spectators expected a real assault on the Bolzano goal, but Todd Bjokstrand's team had little or nothing coming together. The Graz 99ers also missed two power play situations without really endangering Hübl's box. No wonder, then, that the audience became impatient and a shrill concert of whistling began.

In the last two minutes of the game, the Graz team took the goalie off the ice, but this measure was also unsuccessful. HCB Südtirol took home the three points – and started the tournament with an away win.

Strong Foxes: HCB Südtirol started the EBEL 1/0 on Friday with a 99-2015 away win against the Graz 16ers. The hero of the evening was goalie Jaroslav Hübl, who started the season with a shutout.
