The Italian Cup takes center stage

The eight best teams in Serie A (at the end of the first half of the 2014/15 season) face each other in the cup quarter-finals. The start takes place on Thursday evening before the program continues on Saturday and possibly concludes with game three next Tuesday, if necessary. From a South Tyrolean perspective, two pairings in particular are particularly explosive, namely those between Ritten and Eppan and Pustertal and Val Gardena.

The South Tyrolean teams are among themselves

As winners of the first half of the championship, the Rittner Buam chose their local rivals from Eppan as their quarter-final opponents on October 31st. “Our coaching team gave me the Pirates as a tip. I stuck to that,” said Ritten President Thomas Rottensteiner, explaining his choice at the time. The decision is hardly surprising, especially since the Überetscher were only able to qualify for the cup competition at the very last minute. However, the Buam should be warned, because the eighth place in the table won the dress rehearsal two weeks ago in the Ritten Arena with 4:3.

The supposed outsider also made people sit up and take notice in the direct Serie A duel in the second South Tyrolean quarter-final. Val Gardena won its only meeting so far with HC Pustertal 3-2. On Thursday the cards will be reshuffled in the traditional duel. This time the Bruneckers have home advantage, as they want to lay the foundation for moving into the next round in front of their own team.

Valpellice and Cortina or Asiago and Milan are fighting for the remaining two places in the “Final Four” in January. This match will be broadcast live on Thursday by the Rai Sport 2 television channel.
