Derby victory: HCB goalie keeps Pat Curcio in office

HC Bozen played their second home game in three days without Austin Smith and the injured Anton Bernard. Their absence wasn't noticeable at first because the Foxes played bravely forward at the start. They finally rewarded themselves in the first power play of the game: First Dominic Monardo failed at the side netting, then the puck went to Alex Egger, who took heart and shot. His shot deflected into the net for Chris DeSousa. Jakub Sedlacek then outgrew himself in the Bolzano goal: first he shone one-on-one with Lammers, then he also defused the shots from Poulsen, who was in Bolzano for a few weeks at the start of the season, and Clark. After that, the HCB set the tone again. However, Monardo, Frank, Angelidis and today's strong Carlisle were unable to put the disc in the opponent's goal.

DeSousa scores, Sedlacek saves

At the beginning of the middle period, Mike Halmo had the next high-caliber player on his stick after a pass from newcomer Matias Sointu, but he was denied by HCI goalie Nachvatal. His Bolzano counterpart then took center stage again as he drove first Poulsen, then Yogan, to despair. After that, the flow of the game was somewhat lost due to small nicks and recurring errors in the play, especially by the home team.

In the final third, the Haie from Innsbruck set the tone, although they were now used less often because the HCB defense was now much more vigilant. In return, the Foxes repeatedly became dangerous. This was also the case ten minutes before the end, when Carlisle aimed over the goal from a good position. Five minutes later, DeSousa was unlucky on a quick counterattack. The HCB cracks then saved their minimal lead with luck and skill over time. Unlike on Friday against Salzburg, this time there were no whistles echoing through the ice wave, instead Egger and Co. were farewell with thunderous applause.

Next Tuesday, the basement duel against Dornbirn will show how much the derby victory was really worth. In any case, the Foxes are attacking the away trip with a stronger chest.
