German striker moves from Chicago to Pittsburgh

The 23-year-old, silver medalist at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang last year, is joining the four-time Stanley Cup winner as part of a swap deal. Chicago will receive Finnish defender Olli Maatta in return.

In his first year in the NHL, Kahun played all 82 main round games and had 37 points (13 goals, 24 assists). His average playing time was 14:09 minutes. The former Munich player had signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Blackhawks, which expires after the coming season. Kahun, who will soon be skating with superstars like Sidney Crosby and Yevgeny Malkin, earns $925.000 (825.000 euros) a year.

“Dominik had a great rookie season with the Blackhawks. He is a fast, versatile player who can play all three forward positions," said Jim Rutherford, general manager of the Penguins: "He was also used on the power play and shorthanded in Chicago. We are thrilled that he is joining our team.”

Kahun, who was born in the Czech Republic, was in the top 10 among all NHL newcomers in goals, assists and points scorers. The four-time World Cup participant was not drafted.

German striker moves from Chicago to Pittsburgh
