The Augsburg Panthers ensure a brilliant start

The first semi-final already offered the almost 1.000 spectators in the Würtarena an extremely fast-paced duel. At first it was the traditional club from the DEL that clearly set the tone. With the finest combination play, the Panthers gave the cracks from the southern French town of Gap a lot of trouble. The result was an early two-goal lead: Andrew Leblanc made it 1-0 in the third minute, Matt White increased it to 2-0 less than ten minutes later. Afterwards, however, the “birds of prey” found their way into the game better and managed to free themselves from the clutches. A strange gift from the goalkeeper brought them back into the game. AEV goalie Ben Meisner hesitated before passing the ball, finally had the target taken off his blade and invited Maurin Bouvet to score the next goal. A short time later, Gap striker Romain Gutierrez was unlucky when he hit the post.

After the break, the Champions League participant from France stayed on the trigger and bravely stood up to the favored Swabians. They lost the thread a bit and contributed to the fact that the spectators were now treated to an extremely even duel in which both sides did not shy away from tough situations.

However, the goalkeepers only really got to work again in the final period - especially gap goalie Jeff Lerg, who had to reach behind himself in the 43rd minute when former Rittner champion player Gabe Guentzel pulled away from the blue line. Just three turns of the pointer later, the in-form Augsburg newcomer White increased the score to 4-1. Now the Rapaces' resistance was broken. The advanced Mark Cundari ultimately ensured the clear final score of 5:1.

Who will follow Augsburg into the final? The Augsburg Panthers can now sit back and watch the performance of their final opponent on Saturday in quiet anticipation. This will be determined in the duel between DEL club Nürnberger Ice Tigers and the Swiss runner-up EV Zug. The game starts at 20 p.m.

The Augsburg Panthers ensure a brilliant start

Goals worth seeing, spectacular saves and cracking checks – the 12th edition of the DolomitenCup has begun. At the start of the international preparatory tournament in Neumarkt, the Augsburg Panthers secured their ticket to the final with a 5-1 win against the French champions Les Rapaces de Gap.
